Your Opportunity as an Analyst in Private Wealth Management

An overview of this program’s objectives and how you can benefit

The Private Wealth Management (PWM) Analyst Programme is a three-year non-rotational programme.  The Analyst programme kicks off in early July with a comprehensive orientation and training programme designed to help Analysts become acclimated to the firm.  Private Wealth Management provides highly customised financial advice, investment solutions and brokerage services to individuals, families and foundations—most with $10 million or more in investable assets. We specialise in providing our ultrahigh net worth clients custom-tailored financial solutions and access to sophisticated expertise and investments typically reserved for large corporations, financial institutions and governments.

Analysts in PWM will be placed into one of two specific areas and will work closely with product and trading specialists from across the firm to gain a thorough understanding of the uses and applications of sophisticated financial tools and the full range of Morgan Stanley financial products.

Roles and responsibilities may vary slightly by area but typically include:

Sales Team

  • Developing an understanding of how we manage the relationships with our clients
  • Developing an understanding of Morgan Stanley's product range across all asset classes (equities, fixed income, alternatives, commodities)
  • Developing an awareness of the investment process
  • Understanding and assisting with the administrative and support functions on the team
  • Creating and preparing marketing materials for client presentations
  • Remaining abreast of market conditions and being able to provide information to team members and clients

Investment Group (IG)

  • Quantitative portfolio analysis, monitoring and enhancement of existing spreadsheet and software models, performance attribution, portfolio composition, and risk/reward trade-offs within client portfolios
  • Monitoring and maintaining a universe of third-party managers, identifying potential new managers for the programme, and delivering appropriate funds to fulfil ad hoc asset allocation requirements
  • Completing specific theme or project-based assignments to assist the IG in exploring particular investment themes
  • Business development including communication, cooperation, and support of PWM Investment Advisors, who are responsible for fostering, maintaining, and prospecting client relationships
  • Providing support to Portfolio Managers
  • Operational responsibilities

Developing Your Career
What you can anticipate as you make progress and after completing the programme

High-performing Analysts on the sales side are promoted to Associates after three years. Associates are expected to acquire and manage clients, with the support of a senior Investment Advisor, and build up their own independent client base. High performing Analysts in the Investment Group (IG) are also promoted to Associates after three years. As Associates, they can take on more responsibility for the management of the discretionary portfolios with the IG.

Senior management takes a keen interest in your progress as an Analyst, and will look to you for fresh perspectives and new ideas. You will be encouraged to take on responsibility quickly with a view to developing your career.
