Human Resources product groups include Compensation, Benefits, Firmwide Data and Learning and Development, further supporting these coverage teams.

The Analyst Program in Human Resources
How the program works and the day-to-day experience you can expect

The Analyst Program is designed to develop highly analytical Human Resources professionals and prepare Analysts for successful, long term careers in Human Resources at Morgan Stanley.  The Program will focus on developing data analysis expertise, facilitate a broad understanding of the entire Human Resources organization at the Firm, and provide formal learning and networking opportunities across the division.  The goal is to ensure that Analysts are well versed on all areas of the Division, not just the specific group in which they are working.

Classroom training will supplement practical on-the-job experiences and is tailored to the Analyst's background and interests.  Throughout the program, on-going feedback from managers will help Analysts develop and hone their skills.  Additionally, each Analyst will be assigned a mentor who will help them navigate through the organization and provide guidance as they embark on their careers.  Together, these experiences provide the analyst with a strong analytic foundation, which is an essential skill that can be applied to any other role at Morgan Stanley.

Launching Your Career

Examples of Analyst Placements:

  • Data & Compensation - Analysts in Data and Compensation roles would support a specific business within the Firm on a host of human resources issues, including headcount, compensation, data analysis, compensation and expense analysis, and any other ad hoc reports requested by senior management or other HR groups.  A strong candidate for this type of role would possess excellent analytical skills and a thorough attention to detail, be able to collect and summarize multiple streams of data into meaningful reports, and be comfortable with the use of Microsoft Excel and other HR systems.
  • Recruiting - Analysts in Recruiting would support Lateral, Campus, or Diversity Recruiting by assisting with the full recruitment life-cycle.  Lateral recruiting is responsible for bringing experienced talent into the firm in a cost-effective and efficient manner.  Campus Recruiting teams partner with all of our business units to recruit and retain talented undergraduates for our Analyst programs and masters students for our Associate programs, both Full Time and for Summer Internships.  The Diversity Recruiting Team aids with both lateral and campus recruiting to further the Firm's commitment to bringing in a diverse employee population.  The role of an Analyst in Recruiting might include, but is not limited to: developing new recruiting strategies, meeting with the business to assess hiring needs, posting jobs externally and to campuses, planning and attending internship events and/or diversity recruiting events, screening candidates, and assisting with the eventual placement of a hire into the appropriate role.
  • Generalist - Analysts placed in a Generalist role would work with their coverage team to partner with divisional managers and advise their clients to better mitigate overall risk to the Firm.  Analysts would be exposed to a variety of processes including Performance Management, Talent Management, ad-hoc employee relations issues or client inquiries, and Year-End Compensation Processes.  A strong candidate for this type of role would possess a strong client service orientation, the ability to exercise sound judgment, be an effective problem solver, and have excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Learning and Development - Analysts placed in Learning and Development would be a part of the organization known as Morgan Stanley University, or MSU.  Some Analysts may be assigned to an MSU Coverage team and would be responsible for assisting in the development and execution of on-going training for employees at all levels.  Other Learning and Development Analysts will work on an MSU On-Boarding team and would assist in organizing and delivering first rate new hire programs that help Analyst or Associate classes learn the necessary technical and professional skills needed to foster productivity on the job, as well as assist in their integration with the Morgan Stanley Culture.  A strong candidate for this type of role would have an interest in instructional design, possess strong organizational and leadership skills, be creative in helping to develop new curriculum, and be able to gather feedback to constantly improve and retain our Firm's talent.
