	Your Opportunity as a Summer Associate in Investment Banking

An overview of this program’s objectives and how you can benefit

The ten-week Morgan Stanley IBD Summer Associate Program is an opportunity for MBA and JD candidates to experience the culture and atmosphere of Morgan Stanley and take on the roles of full-time Associates.

Many of the Summer Associates join the Associate generalist "pool"  and work on a range of projects across corporate finance industry groups and our M&A department. If you have experience or interest in a particular sector, we try to accommodate your preference in making project assignments. Some of our industry groups hire directly, including the Real Estate Banking Group and the Financial Institutions Group.  All of our Summer Associates in New York sit in the "pool" alongside full-time Associates.  Our branch offices in the Americas hire Summer Associates and include Calgary, Chicago, Houston, Los Angeles, Menlo Park, Mexico City, San Francisco, Sao Paulo and Toronto.  

The program will give you a realistic view of investment banking as you spend your summer working on a variety of transactions and business development initiatives. You will build a strong foundation in the basic skills of financial problem solving, negotiation and execution, and gain experience in marketing the firm's products and services effectively. All assignments are executed by teams that typically consist of three or four people including senior bankers. All professionals are on several teams concurrently. Team assignments may last from a few days to several months.

The program features a number of social events to facilitate networking and explore career opportunities. You will also hear weekly speakers and attend networking lunches.  All Summer Associates are assigned two mentors. Those who are in the "pool" are also assigned a pool buddy.

Requirements

Candidates should be working toward completion of an M.B.A. or J.D. degree.

Selection Process

Selected applicants will have the opportunity to meet with Morgan Stanley bankers both on campus and in our offices. Candidates are evaluated on their commitment to a career in investment banking and their ability to succeed at both the Associate and officer level.
