Morgan Stanley's Sales & Trading Analyst classes are treated as a top priority because we know they will produce the future generation of leaders for the firm. The Analyst Program provides candidates with an opportunity to develop and master the analytical, quantitative, and interpersonal skills needed for a rewarding career within our Fixed Income and Institutional Equities divisions. The division's flat organizational structure and open trading floor allow Analysts opportunities to collaborate with successful industry professionals in a fast paced and intense environment  requiring an aptitude for analyzing and interpreting often complex information in a timely manner.

The Analyst Programs in Sales & Trading
How the program works and the day-to-day experience you can expect

Morgan Stanley's Sales & Trading division has a two-year Analyst Program. Many of our outstanding Analysts are asked to stay on to continue a full career at Morgan Stanley.

Within the different business functions the following roles exist for Analysts joining the program:

  • Sales Develop your own client base and be responsible for building long-term client relationships, develop and present investment ideas, sell and cross-sell the firm's products, and represent the firm with clients on important business issues.
  • Trading Develop and execute trading ideas and analysis, and support all aspects of the market-making trade execution process, from providing research analytics on trades to relative value analysis.
  • Structuring Use Innovative and solutions-based approach to designing both investment and risk management products across all asset classes.
  • Strategy Analyze market fundamentals and liaise with researchers to develop investment recommendations for internal and external clients.
  • Management/Analysis (for Equities only)
    • Client Business Analytics - Provide quantitative and qualitative metrics and analytics around client revenue and profitability to drive internal business and client strategy.
    • Commission Management - Work with clients to efficiently manage their commission dollars by creating increased transparency around the services that clients value.
    • Risk Management - Evaluate and monitor market and non-market risk across equity products and serve as an escalation point to address any risk-related issues that arise throughout the trading day.

The initial training that you receive on starting the program

The Programs begin with a comprehensive training curriculum  that includes firmwide training with Analysts across the Institutional Securities Division. The curriculum features extensive market knowledge, product and technical financial product, bond math, credit modeling, and financial accounting, enhanced with a variety of product talks. The program will also provide professional development classes as well as licensing and registration. You will have networking opportunities with peers and colleagues and frequent interaction with senior managers through information sessions and other organized events.

In addition to classroom training, you receive on-the-job coaching and feedback throughout the program.

Requirements

Analysts are expected to complete their undergraduate degree by June 2010 with excellent academic results and to possess a strong interest in the financial markets.

Selection Process

Selected applicants will first interview either on campus or via phone. Final round candidates will be invited to interview at our offices. Candidates who apply to both the Fixed Income and Institutional Equity divisions will be asked to undergo separate interviewing processes.
