An overview of this program’s objectives and how you can benefit Many Associates join the Associate generalist "pool" and work on a range of projects across corporate finance industry groups and our M&A department. If you have experience or interest in a particular sector, we accommodate your preference in making project assignments. Some of our industry groups hire directly, including the Real Estate Banking Group and the Financial Institutions Group. All of our Associates in New York sit together in the "pool". Our branch offices in the Americas hire Associates directly as well and include Calgary, Chicago, Houston, Los Angeles, Menlo Park, Mexico City, San Francisco, Sao Paulo and Toronto. The roles and responsibilities vary by department, but typically include:
Launching Your Career The Associate Program begins with an intensive five-week training program in New York featuring presentations from senior management introducing the Firm, its businesses, values and culture. With guidance from Investment Banking professionals, the classroom-based training covers and ensures Associates understand:
Associates are also trained and prepared to complete mandatory regulatory exams (i.e. Series 79). In addition to quantitative training, Morgan Stanley appreciates the value of its professionals and believes in providing opportunities for development and growth at the Firm. Lean deal teams afford Associates the opportunity to work closely with senior officers and the Firm supports additional skills relevant to an Associate's goal. And networking events allow Associates to develop a network not only within Investment Banking but throughout the organization. Developing Your Career The first year is designed to give you an understanding of how our bankers determine a client's needs and how they meet their strategic objectives. This will enable you to build upon their broadened skill base. The firm provides ongoing training and mentoring that supports you as you work to advance your career to the next level. At the end of your Associate tenure, you could be considered for promotion to Vice President. If you continue to excel you can potentially move on to become an Executive Director and ultimately a Managing Director. Is Investment Banking Right for You?
Requirements You must have an MBA and a top-class degree and/or a minimum of 2-3 years of professional experience. Selection Process Selected applicants will have the opportunity to meet with Morgan Stanley bankers both on campus and in our offices.
